Under directives of the Chief Minister of Punjab, driving license services across the province have recorded unprecedented activity, marking a significant milestone in public service delivery. According to officials, more than two million driving licenses have been issued over the past 18 days, setting a new provincial record. A spokesperson stated that no other province in Pakistan has issued licenses at this scale within such a short period, adding that Punjab remains the only province offering record level licensing facilities accessible to citizens across urban and rural areas.
Official figures shared by the traffic authorities provide a detailed picture of the scale and diversity of services delivered during this period. More than 940,000 citizens obtained learning licenses, while over 360,000 individuals received fresh regular driving licenses. In addition to new issuances, over 700,000 citizens successfully renewed their learning, regular, and international driving licenses. The data also shows that more than 2,000 citizens acquired international driving permits, reflecting rising demand for globally recognized documentation. Furthermore, over 7,000 citizens were able to reissue licenses that had been lost, demonstrating improvements in administrative efficiency and record management.
A major contributor to this surge has been the province’s online home based licensing portal, which continues to see strong adoption. According to the spokesperson, more than 1.14 million citizens used the digital portal to access licensing services without visiting physical centers. The system allows applicants to apply, track, and receive licenses remotely, reducing congestion at service counters and saving time for citizens. Officials note that the platform has played a key role in expanding access, particularly for individuals in remote areas and those with limited ability to visit licensing offices during working hours.
DIG Traffic Punjab Muhammad Waqas Nazir emphasized the importance of compliance with licensing regulations, stating that driving without a valid license remains a punishable offense subject to heavy fines and strict legal action. He added that improved access to licensing and driver training has contributed to a noticeable reduction in traffic accidents across Punjab. According to him, trained and licensed drivers are more aware of traffic rules, road safety practices, and legal responsibilities, which has positively impacted overall traffic discipline in the province.
Traffic police officials also highlighted ongoing public awareness efforts aimed at reinforcing the importance of holding a valid driving license. Citizens are being encouraged to use service centers, licensing centers, and the online portal to obtain or renew their licenses in a timely manner. DIG Traffic Nazir advised drivers to immediately download their e driving license on their mobile devices after issuance, noting that the digital version carries the same legal validity as the physical card. Authorities believe that wider adoption of e driving licenses will further support enforcement, reduce document loss, and strengthen Punjab’s transition toward digitally enabled public services.
