Punjab Highway Patrol has formally extended its operational presence into the digital space with the establishment of a dedicated Cyber Patrol Unit, marking a significant step toward strengthening online public safety and improving digital engagement with citizens. The unit was officially constituted on Wednesday, December 24, following formal orders issued by PHP Additional Inspector General of Police Dr. Athar Waheed. With immediate effect, the Cyber Patrol Unit has begun operations and is actively monitoring social media platforms and other digital channels to oversee content related to Punjab Highway Patrol and its activities.

According to officials, the core mandate of the newly formed unit is to track, assess, and respond to online content that directly concerns Punjab Highway Patrol. This includes identifying misleading or inaccurate information that may circulate on social media and other online platforms. By keeping a close watch on digital conversations, the unit aims to counter misinformation that could affect public perception or create confusion regarding law enforcement operations. Officials believe that consistent monitoring will help promote responsible digital behavior among users while ensuring that accurate information about highway patrol functions remains accessible to the public.

Beyond monitoring online narratives, the Cyber Patrol Unit has also been tasked with enhancing service delivery by acting as a bridge between citizens and relevant operational wings of Punjab Highway Patrol. Public complaints, queries, and concerns raised on social media platforms will be identified and forwarded to the appropriate departments for timely action. Dr. Athar Waheed has instructed the unit to maintain close coordination with concerned sections to ensure that issues highlighted online are not only documented but also addressed efficiently. This approach is expected to improve responsiveness and reduce delays in resolving matters related to traffic management, road safety, and highway patrol services.

Officials within Punjab Highway Patrol have stated that the creation of the Cyber Patrol Unit aligns with evolving operational needs and reflects the growing importance of digital platforms in public engagement. As citizens increasingly rely on social media to share feedback and seek assistance, structured digital monitoring has become essential for maintaining transparency and accountability. The department believes that an organized presence in the online space will help build trust by ensuring that public concerns are acknowledged and addressed through official channels. The initiative also supports broader efforts to integrate technology into policing practices, allowing law enforcement agencies to adapt to changing communication trends while maintaining effective oversight and service standards.

By launching the Cyber Patrol Unit, Punjab Highway Patrol aims to strengthen its connection with the public, reduce the spread of inaccurate information, and ensure that digital platforms contribute positively to road safety awareness and law enforcement communication. The department views this step as part of its ongoing efforts to align with modern governance practices, where digital monitoring and engagement play an increasingly important role in supporting efficient and transparent public service delivery.
