Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) government has reportedly increased the import tax on mobile phones to 44-52% that was previously set at 15%. According to the Electronic Dealers’ Association (EDA), the federal government has doubled the taxes, income tax, GST, duties and levies on imported mobile phones.
Furthermore, the government has also imposed a ‘Type Approval’ condition on imported gadgets. President EDA, Mohammad Rizwan commenting on the decision said that the decision is to have drastic effects on the industry.
With the newly increased tax on smartphones, the price for the gadgets is said to increase by twenty thousand rupees.
