Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has conducted an Independent Quality of Service (QoS) Survey in 17 cities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Sindh to assess the performance of Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs). The survey indicated that some CMOs fell short of key performance indicators (KPIs) in voice and latency as defined in their licenses and regulations.
A joint QoS survey in seven cities of Gilgit Baltistan was also conducted during the third quarter of 2023. The PTA issued instructions to operators for corrective measures to enhance service quality. The survey evaluated Mobile Network Coverage and QoS Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Voice, SMS, and Mobile Broadband, using automated monitoring tools.
The survey ranked CMOs based on compliance with defined thresholds in licenses and regulations. Notable findings include the compliance level of CMOs in Mobile Network Coverage and Voice Services in surveyed cities. Additionally, Ookla Speed Test mobile application was used to benchmark the CMOs’ performance in terms of upload and download throughputs and network latency.
The survey results highlighted areas for improvement, especially in network latency and webpage loading time. Instructions have been issued to operators for corrective measures to meet quality standards. The overall rankings for Mobile Network Coverage, Mobile Broadband, and Voice services were presented, emphasizing the pursuit of better mobile services and healthy competition among operators. The detailed survey results are available on the PTA website.
