PTA Reports 123% Surge In Pakistan’s Local Mobile Manufacturing In July 2025

Pakistan’s local mobile phone manufacturing industry recorded a sharp rise in July 2025, with output reaching 3.59 million units, according to data shared by PTA. This represents a 123% increase year-on-year and a 64% month-on-month growth, largely driven by low base effects. The rise in production signals a rebound in local assembly after several months of supply chain pressures and shifting demand patterns that had disrupted the market.

Industry insights from Topline Research highlighted that the year-on-year growth was primarily due to weaker numbers in July 2024. That period had seen a slowdown because of extensive pre-buying in June 2024 ahead of expected budgetary changes. Similarly, the monthly growth in July 2025 came on the back of limited volumes in June this year, when regional conflicts disrupted supply chains and brought down production to 2.19 million units. These factors created a lower comparison base, amplifying the growth numbers for July.

Despite the strong growth in locally manufactured and assembled units, sales performance during July reflected a different picture. Local mobile phone sales stood at 17.83 million units for the month, registering a 6% decline compared to the same period last year. The market composition showed that feature phones still held a slight majority share, with 52% or 9.36 million units, while smartphones accounted for 48% or 8.47 million units. The data also revealed that 95% of the total demand for mobile phones in the country during July was met through local manufacturing and assembly, underscoring the increasing reliance on domestic production.

The leading brands in locally assembled phones for July included VGO Tel with 2.12 million units, followed closely by Infinix at 2.01 million and Itel at 1.53 million. Other significant contributors were Vivo with 1.38 million units, Xiaomi with 1.04 million, Samsung with 0.93 million, Tecno with 0.89 million, Q Mobile with 0.72 million, G’Five with 0.7 million, and Nokia with 0.65 million units. This brand distribution illustrates a competitive landscape where both international and local names are playing a role in shaping Pakistan’s mobile market.

Looking ahead, analysts expect mobile phone sales to grow by 7–8% year-on-year over the next 12 months. With the base effects now normalizing and inflationary pressures easing, the market environment is seen as more favorable for sustained demand. Moreover, the seasonal launch of new smartphone models by global brands such as Samsung and Xiaomi around September is anticipated to support stronger consumer interest. Within the listed space, companies like Airlink Communication and Lucky Cement are positioned to benefit directly from this rise, given their roles in assembling leading brands such as Tecno, Xiaomi, and Samsung locally. Their continued presence underscores how the growth of the local mobile manufacturing ecosystem is tied closely to both domestic and international market movements.
