PTA Chairman Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman (HI, M) represented Pakistan at a high-level roundtable discussion on spectrum challenges during the GSMA Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona, Spain. The session, titled “The Sky is Not the Limit: Spectrum Challenges for Direct-to-Device Connectivity,” brought together global industry leaders, policymakers, and technology experts to discuss sustainability and regulatory frameworks for satellite and terrestrial spectrum utilization.
During the discussion, the PTA Chairman reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to advancing its digital landscape by ensuring the equitable allocation of spectrum resources. He highlighted Pakistan’s proactive regulatory approach and stressed the importance of international collaboration in addressing connectivity gaps. He further emphasized that bridging the digital divide requires an efficient spectrum management policy, robust policy frameworks, and infrastructure development to support next-generation telecommunications.
With the rise of satellite-based and direct-to-device (D2D) connectivity, global regulators are facing increasing challenges in managing spectrum availability while ensuring minimal interference between terrestrial and satellite networks. The roundtable explored strategies to optimize spectrum usage, enhance regulatory flexibility, and promote innovation in wireless communication technologies.
Pakistan’s participation at this prestigious forum reflects its commitment to staying at the forefront of digital transformation. PTA continues to work towards advancing emerging technologies, driving digital reforms, and shaping the country’s telecom sector to meet future connectivity needs. By engaging in international dialogues and aligning policies with global best practices, Pakistan aims to foster a sustainable and inclusive digital ecosystem.
The GSMA Mobile World Congress 2025 remains one of the most influential events in the telecommunications industry, providing a platform for key stakeholders to discuss evolving trends, regulatory challenges, and opportunities in the global digital landscape. Pakistan’s active participation reinforces its role in shaping the future of connectivity in the Asia-Pacific region.
