PTA has approved the adoption of Wi-Fi 7 and subsequent Wi-Fi generations within the 6 GHz band (5925–6425 MHz), following parameters already established for Wi-Fi 6E. This approval places Pakistan among the early adopters of next-generation wireless technologies in the Asia-Pacific region and highlights a growing commitment to modern connectivity standards. The move is expected to significantly improve the quality and reliability of wireless communication for consumers, businesses, and public institutions alike.

With Wi-Fi 7, users in Pakistan will benefit from ultra-high data rates, low latency, and increased reliability, which are essential for demanding applications such as 8K video streaming, immersive augmented and virtual reality environments, and industrial automation processes. By opening up additional spectrum in the 6 GHz band, PTA is addressing congestion in legacy Wi-Fi bands and enabling faster, more stable connections. This shift will also lower the cost of broadband delivery and broaden the reach of high-capacity wireless networks across the country.

The adoption of Wi-Fi 7 is set to impact a wide range of sectors, including households, small and medium enterprises, educational campuses, healthcare facilities, and emerging smart city projects. Enhanced wireless capacity will support a more connected and efficient environment for professionals, students, and service providers. This development also complements ongoing efforts to expand digital infrastructure, support remote work, improve telehealth services, and foster greater access to high-quality online education and entertainment.

PTA has emphasized that this milestone reflects its focus on bridging the digital divide, enhancing network resilience, and advancing Pakistan’s inclusive digital economy. By making spectrum available for next-generation Wi-Fi standards, PTA is encouraging innovation and investment in wireless technologies that will underpin future growth. The decision also aligns with the broader national agenda to equip Pakistan with the tools and infrastructure required to compete in a rapidly evolving global digital landscape. With Wi-Fi 7 now approved, local device manufacturers, service providers, and technology partners will have new opportunities to develop and deploy advanced connectivity solutions across the country.
