PTA And Ministry Of Climate Change Sign MoU To Advance Green ICT And Digital Sustainability In Pakistan

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination (MoCC&EC) have taken a significant step toward sustainable digital transformation by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at advancing Green ICT and environmentally responsible innovation across the country. The agreement, signed at PTA Headquarters in Islamabad, marks an important milestone in promoting responsible e-waste management, fostering climate-resilient digital infrastructure, and aligning technology growth with environmental protection goals.

The collaboration highlights PTA’s leadership in integrating digital development with environmental sustainability. Through this partnership, both organizations aim to coordinate policy development, knowledge exchange, and joint initiatives to ensure that Pakistan’s expanding ICT landscape evolves in an eco-friendly and sustainable manner. The MoU focuses on key areas such as promoting energy-efficient telecom networks, developing sustainable ICT infrastructure, and launching capacity-building programs designed to encourage responsible practices across the digital sector. This effort supports the creation of a greener and more resource-efficient technology environment in Pakistan.

Chairman PTA, Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman, HI (M), SI, emphasized that this partnership represents a strategic move to embed environmental responsibility within Pakistan’s digital transformation agenda. He noted that the collaboration aligns with the Digital Pakistan Vision, Vision 2025, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The initiative will help shape a national framework that encourages innovation while ensuring that environmental considerations remain at the core of ICT growth. By promoting eco-friendly technologies and sustainable operations, both institutions are paving the way for responsible digital progress in the country.

PTA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the ITU G5 Regulatory Framework, which focuses on creating inclusive, sustainable, and environmentally conscious digital ecosystems. Through this initiative, the Authority seeks to encourage telecom operators and ICT stakeholders to adopt best practices for energy efficiency, resource conservation, and reduced environmental impact. This partnership with MoCC&EC sets a strong example of cross-sectoral collaboration aimed at building a resilient, sustainable, and digitally empowered Pakistan.
