Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued an advisory urging parents and guardians to actively safeguard children in the digital environment, highlighting that online safety is a shared responsibility. The advisory comes amid growing concerns about the increasing use of the internet by minors and the potential risks associated with unsupervised access to online content. PTA stressed that managing digital exposure is essential to protect children from inappropriate material and maintain their overall well-being.

In its advisory, PTA recommended that parents set clear and limited screen time for children to ensure a healthy balance between educational activities, recreational engagement, and family interaction. Excessive screen use, the authority warned, can affect learning patterns and cognitive development while also disrupting daily routines. Parents are encouraged to guide children on responsible internet use, including understanding the risks associated with social media platforms, and promoting awareness of digital ethics and safety practices.

PTA also highlighted the importance of active monitoring, suggesting that parents engage with their children’s online activities rather than leaving them unsupervised. This includes discussions about what children view online, teaching them to recognize potentially harmful content, and providing practical advice on maintaining privacy and reporting unsafe material. By fostering open communication, parents can help children develop the skills necessary to navigate the digital world confidently and safely.

To strengthen online protection, PTA recommended the use of parental control software and content filters. A list of approved tools is available on PTA’s official website, providing parents with guidance on selecting appropriate applications to block harmful or inappropriate content. These measures, PTA explained, can complement supervision and education efforts, creating a safer digital experience for minors. The authority emphasized that parental involvement combined with technological safeguards can significantly reduce exposure to online risks, ensuring children benefit from digital tools while minimizing potential harm.
