P@SHA wishes to congratulate Sindh’s Call Centers on getting sales tax exemption on exports. Previously, contact centres in Sindh were subjected to a 3% sales tax on exports, with rates varying in other regions. However, by this recent announcement on June 31st, 2021, SRB was the first to grant this exemption by adding Call Centers to the earlier notification of tax exemptions from 2013.
The applicable sales tax increased the cost of doing business for Call Centers because it could not be passed on to customers and they had to bear the cost themselves while competing with call centres in countries such as the Philippines and India, where numerous incentives for call centres already exist.
P@SHA met with the Chief Minister of Sindh, Mr. Murad Ali Shah, as well as the Chairman of the Sindh Revenue Board (SRB), Mr. Khalid Mehmood, and his staff, to discuss this matter. Members of the Interprovincial Sales Tax Coordination Committee heard from P@SHA representatives about the increased cost of doing business as a result of the relevant sales tax on Call Center exports income (IPSTCC). This exemption has been obtained thanks to the P@SHA’s tireless work.
P@SHA would like to express its gratitude to the Federal IT Minister, Syed Amin ul Haque, for his unwavering support in this area. Mr. Nadeem Elahi – MD Ibex Global & TRG, Mr. Asif Peer – CEO Systems Limited, Mr. Shahzad Shahid – CEO TPS Worldwide, Mr. Naseer Akhtar – CEO Infotech Group, and Mr. Zohaib Khan – CEO A2Z Creatorz are also to be thanked for their efforts in making this possible.
We are also grateful to Chairman SRB for recognising the critical need and taking the necessary steps to assist call centre firms. P@SHA will continue its work in the hopes that other provinces would follow suit and make it easier for call centre firms to thrive, which will help Pakistan’s exports grow.
