The federal government has announced an increase in the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme quota for students and youth in Balochistan, raising the number from 10,000 to 18,000. The decision was confirmed by Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Program (PMYP), Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan, during the inauguration ceremony of Artificial Intelligence and Cybercrime courses held in Chagai DHA Quetta. The move underscores the government’s continued commitment to empowering young people through access to modern education and digital tools that are essential for today’s evolving technological landscape.
Speaking at the event, Rana Mashhood emphasized that the federation remains fully dedicated to equipping the youth of Balochistan with the skills required to thrive in the digital economy. He highlighted that PMYP continues to expand its initiatives across the province, ensuring that students have the opportunity to benefit from advanced learning programs in technology, AI, and cybersecurity. The chairman also noted that youth participation in such programs contributes directly to national progress, as it enables young Pakistanis to become active contributors to the country’s growing digital infrastructure.
He further stated that the government views youth development as a national priority, particularly in regions like Balochistan where educational and economic opportunities have historically been limited. Alongside technology-driven training, the government is also encouraging entrepreneurship through its startup loan programs under PMYP. Several young entrepreneurs from Balochistan have already secured funding to launch ventures in agriculture and other emerging sectors. This combination of technical education and financial support reflects the government’s broader effort to foster a culture of innovation and self-reliance among the youth.
Rana Mashhood added that Pakistan is among the few countries in the region to have developed a national Artificial Intelligence policy, demonstrating the leadership’s focus on aligning the nation with global trends in digital transformation. He shared that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also increased Newtech funds to strengthen employment opportunities for Pakistani youth abroad, particularly in the Middle East, Europe, Korea, Canada, and the United States. This initiative is aimed at enhancing the country’s skilled workforce and doubling foreign exchange earnings over the next three years.
The expanded PM Laptop Scheme quota is part of the government’s larger vision to integrate digital education and innovation into mainstream learning. By prioritizing access to laptops and technical training, the initiative seeks to ensure that students, especially in underrepresented regions like Balochistan, have the tools necessary to pursue higher education and participate in the global digital economy. The government’s ongoing support for youth in technology and skills development continues to play a crucial role in preparing Pakistan’s next generation for a rapidly advancing world.
