Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation, National University of Technology in Islamabad, and NED University of Engineering and Technology in Karachi have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish one of the leading Centers for Industrial Innovation and Artificial Intelligence in Pakistan, known as CIINAI. The center is intended to serve as a platform to accelerate industrial modernization through the application of advanced technologies across the manufacturing sector.

The proposed center will support applied research, facilitate technology transfer, and develop AI based industrial solutions aimed at improving productivity, competitiveness, and sustainable economic growth. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed at a ceremony held at National University of Technology, bringing together representatives from industry, academia, and government to promote research driven industrial development.

The initiative is being carried out by Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation under the leadership of Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan, and is aligned with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif’s broader vision for a modern, technology driven industrial economy. Speaking at the ceremony, Khan described the establishment of CIINAI as a historic milestone in the country’s industrial development, saying closer collaboration between industry, academia, and research institutions remains among the government’s foremost priorities under the National Industrial Policy.

Khan said the center would integrate advanced manufacturing technologies, artificial intelligence, and applied research under a single platform to accelerate industrial modernization, adding that the initiative would help improve product quality, optimize manufacturing processes, and strengthen Pakistan’s standing in international markets. He said the government remains committed to aligning the industrial sector with global technological advancements and encouraging the adoption of AI across manufacturing industries, describing strong industry-university partnerships as the foundation of a modern, knowledge based economy.
