Muhammad Zohaib Khan, former chairman of Pakistan’s IT industry association PASHA, has been recognized as Pride of Pakistan for his exceptional contributions to the country’s technology sector. The announcement was made on the eve of Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day during a ceremony at Jinnah Stadium, Islamabad. Zohaib was the only PASHA chairman and among a select few IT industry leaders to receive this distinction, marking a significant acknowledgment of his two decades of service and dedication to Pakistan’s digital growth. Throughout his career, he has represented the country on global platforms, securing multiple accolades and reinforcing Pakistan’s position in the international technology landscape.

During his tenure as PASHA chairman, Pakistan achieved record-breaking IT export earnings of over $3.2 billion in FY24, a milestone credited to his vision and leadership. His term also marked Pakistan’s first-ever hosting of the prestigious APICTA Awards in 2023, a development that elevated the country’s profile within regional technology economies. Zohaib introduced several landmark initiatives, including IT export awards, securing tax incentives at both federal and provincial levels, enabling 50% retention of foreign exchange in bank accounts, and launching the Tech Destination Pakistan campaign in partnership with policymakers and a private bank. He also restructured the PASHA secretariat and revitalized its research and development capabilities, enabling more robust industry support and advocacy.
Beyond organizational reforms, Zohaib actively facilitated the expansion of Pakistani IT companies into key international markets such as the GCC and Europe. His ongoing work with the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) focuses on further scaling the country’s IT exports with the ambitious target of reaching $10 billion in the coming years. As the brand ambassador for Tech Destination Pakistan since its inception, he continues to promote Pakistan as a competitive and innovative IT hub on the global stage. His contributions have been instrumental in not only strengthening export performance but also in advancing digital transformation across sectors including healthcare, education, agriculture, banking, and governance.
Speaking on the occasion, Zohaib expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating that Pakistan’s IT industry holds immense potential to transform the national economy through sustained export growth and digital adoption. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the country’s technology-driven development, crediting the industry and the nation for providing him the opportunity to contribute. The Marka-e-Haq ceremony, attended by Prime Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif, Field Marshal General Asim Munir, service chiefs, diplomats, and dignitaries, also honored several other individuals as Pride of Pakistan for their achievements in various fields, underscoring the country’s diverse talent and dedication to progress.
