Pakistan’s government has unveiled ambitious plans to boost the country’s information technology (IT) sector. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, presiding over a meeting with the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, announced the establishment of ten new software technology parks across Pakistan by 2025.
The initiative aims to create dedicated hubs for IT companies, fostering innovation and collaboration within the industry. The meeting also revealed plans to establish 100 “e-Rozgar Centers” (employment centers) nationwide in 2025, potentially providing training and job opportunities in the technology sector.
Pakistan’s partnership with South Korea continues to bear fruit, with the Islamabad IT Park, a collaborative project, on track for completion next year. Another IT Park in Karachi, also undertaken with South Korean cooperation, is expected to be finished by 2027.
These developments come on the heels of a separate meeting where Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the need to prioritize increasing Pakistan’s IT exports. He acknowledged the country’s vast potential in the field and called for its full utilization. Additionally, he directed the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) to address any challenges faced by IT exporters related to debit cards and foreign currency transactions, ensuring a smoother operating environment.
The government’s commitment to expanding Pakistan’s IT infrastructure and streamlining export processes signifies a strategic push towards solidifying the country’s position in the global technology landscape.
