Pakistan’s long-awaited Center of Excellence in Gaming and Animation (CEGA) is set to officially begin operations on August 1, 2025, after facing months of delays. Backed by an investment of Rs 2.52 billion, the initiative is being funded by Ignite – National Technology Fund under the Ministry of IT & Telecom, marking a landmark move to strengthen the country’s creative economy and provide new opportunities for its youth.
The ambitious project has been awarded to HUM Networks Ltd., which will manage its operations for a period of five years and three months. The scope includes establishing state-of-the-art infrastructure, offering co-working facilities, and launching extensive training programs in game development, animation, and digital media. CEGA is designed to prepare young Pakistanis for emerging opportunities in the global digital content market, while also fostering an entrepreneurial environment for new startups in the creative technology sector.
According to official documentation, CEGA went through several rounds of procedural reviews and evaluations before the Ignite Board of Directors granted its final approval in May 2025. The formal contract was signed on July 15, clearing the way for the project to begin in August.
Industry experts view the launch as a timely intervention for Pakistan’s growing digital economy. With over 195 million mobile phone users and more than 30,000 ICT graduates entering the job market each year, the country has a strong base of young talent eager to build careers in technology and digital content creation. CEGA is expected to serve as a national hub where this talent can be harnessed, refined, and channeled into the thriving global gaming and animation industry, which is currently valued at over $500 billion.
The center aims not only to provide technical training but also to support the development of local startups and creators. By offering co-working spaces, mentorship, and access to industry-standard resources, CEGA is positioned as a launchpad for businesses that can contribute significantly to Pakistan’s digital exports. Officials anticipate that the initiative will generate employment opportunities, stimulate creative entrepreneurship, and enhance the country’s competitiveness in international markets.
In addition, CEGA will play a role in shaping Pakistan’s narrative as a participant in the digital creative economy rather than just a consumer. The Ministry of IT & Telecom has emphasized that initiatives like CEGA are crucial for empowering youth with skills that meet global demand, ensuring sustainable job creation, and diversifying Pakistan’s technology exports.
While the launch marks a milestone, much will depend on the effective implementation of training programs and the ability to connect graduates with local and international industry opportunities. However, with HUM Networks at the helm and strong backing from Ignite, expectations are high that CEGA will make a tangible difference in both skills development and job creation.
As Pakistan positions itself to tap into the rapidly growing gaming and animation sectors, CEGA could become a catalyst for transforming the country’s youth potential into global success stories.
