Pakistan’s Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) is in line for a significant funding boost in the next fiscal year. Documents obtained by ProPakistani suggest a 30% increase in MoITT’s budget for 2024-25 (FY25), bringing the total allocation to Rs. 11.82 billion.
This proposed budget prioritizes development, with Rs. 7 billion dedicated to development projects aimed at advancing Pakistan’s IT and telecom infrastructure. The Special Communication Organization (SCO), responsible for government telecommunication services, is set to receive Rs. 6.98 billion.
Other key agencies under MoITT will also see increased funding. The National Information Technology Board (NITB), which promotes IT development and usage, is allocated Rs. 1.5 billion. The Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), tasked with boosting software exports, will receive Rs. 1 billion. The Electronic Certification Accreditation Council (ECAC), responsible for regulating the IT industry, is allocated Rs. 340 million.
The proposed budget also takes into account newly established institutions. The National Digital Council (NDC) and Pakistan Digital Authority (PDA), both crucial for fostering Pakistan’s digital transformation, are each likely to receive Rs. 500 million.
This increased allocation for MoITT reflects the government’s growing emphasis on developing a robust IT and telecom sector in Pakistan. The focus on development projects and funding for key agencies signifies a commitment to strengthening the country’s digital infrastructure and promoting its digital economy.
