The first ever National Center for Artificial Intelligence (NCAI) has been approved, in principle, by Central Development Working Party (CDWP), under the Minister of Planning and Development, Ahsan Iqbal’s Vision 2025.
NCAI, what is set to be a consortium of 8 labs across several universities with 4 computing clusters, will also have its very own Competitive Research Fund to be open to all Artificial Intelligence (AI) researchers and universities (public and private).

Athar Osama, CEO at Pakistan Innovation Foundation, who put out the news through Facebook, said:
A unique academic partnership driven by results to aspire for sustainability in 3 years, specific targets about publications, startups, and industrial collaborations. This will become a model of extremely competitive research funding at Universities for the future. We’re looking for industrial and corporate partners to join the gang and make Pakistan artificially intelligent!
He credited the work to the hardwork of Prof. Dr. Arshad Ali (HEC), and many AI researchers including Khalid Latif, Yasar Ayaz and others.
