The Frequency Allocation Board has awarded a major contract to TeReSol Pvt. Ltd., the local partner of Germany’s LS telcom AG, to deploy an Automated Spectrum Management Software system in Pakistan. This development marks a notable advancement in strengthening the country’s digital infrastructure as spectrum governance plays an essential role in supporting nationwide connectivity.
FAB manages and allocates Pakistan’s radio frequency spectrum for telecom operators, broadcasters, satellite communication, WiFi, IoT networks, and both public and private communication systems. Its responsibilities also extend to short range devices, device to device communication, non terrestrial networks, and public protection and disaster relief applications. With the growing demand for bandwidth driven by 5G expansion, IoT deployments, smart cities, and AI enabled networks, efficient spectrum oversight has become increasingly critical for ensuring uninterrupted services across the country. The introduction of the Automated Spectrum Management Software aims to support these needs through precise planning, improved tracking, and enhanced operational capacity.
The new system is expected to automate key workflows within FAB and enable advanced data analysis for better decision making. It will allow accurate forecasting of spectrum requirements, prevention of interference, and improved utilization of available resources. LS telcom AG, which operates in over 100 countries, has extensive experience in spectrum management and regulatory tools across various radio communication technologies. Its collaboration with TeReSol brings an internationally recognized solution to Pakistan, strengthening local capabilities while maintaining compliance with global standards. The project will involve installation, commissioning, data migration, and full integration of the system at FAB headquarters in Islamabad. It will also be linked with FAB’s existing radio monitoring stations situated across major cities to establish a unified national spectrum management framework. According to contract details, the deployment and transition period is planned to be completed within 180 days.
The initiative aligns with the objectives of the Federal Government’s Digital Vision of Pakistan, which focuses on promoting innovation, improving public sector efficiency, and supporting digital services. As spectrum usage expands with new technologies, a more structured and automated system will assist in ensuring equitable distribution and consistent monitoring of this national asset. Modernizing spectrum governance is expected to enable better support for 5G, IoT networks, AI driven systems, satellite based communication, and smart infrastructure projects that rely heavily on efficient frequency coordination. These upgrades also create opportunities for expanded local expertise, improved public service delivery, and enhanced transparency in regulatory functions.
By upgrading its internal systems, FAB aims to facilitate smoother communication channels for both public and private sector entities that rely on radio frequency spectrum. The move supports Pakistan’s broader goals of advancing its ICT and telecom sectors as part of a steadily growing digital economy. The project is expected to promote innovation, encourage new investments, and create professional opportunities in engineering, regulatory affairs, and technology operations. With the deployment of the Automated Spectrum Management Software system, Pakistan will strengthen its ability to manage spectrum nationwide while building the foundation for future technologies and digitally enhanced services.
