Pakistan’s e-commerce market is part of the rapidly growing South Asian e-commerce landscape. The region’s e-commerce market is projected to reach $150 billion by 2025. Pakistan, with its 100 million-plus internet users and 70 million mobile subscribers, accounts for a significant share of this growth.

The country’s e-commerce market has witnessed remarkable growth in recent years, driven by increasing internet penetration, mobile adoption, and a young, tech-savvy population. With over 100 million internet users and 70 million mobile subscribers, Pakistan offers immense potential for online commerce. The industry has shown resilience, with the e-commerce gross merchandise value in the country jumping from US $10.8 billion in 2022 to reach US $18.7 billion by 2027. This growth trajectory is expected to continue, with a projected annual growth rate of 52.1%.

The e-commerce landscape in Pakistan is diverse, with various sectors contributing to the market’s growth. Electronics, hobby and leisure, fashion, furniture and homeware, and grocery are among the leading sectors. Online shoppers in Pakistan have increased significantly, with over 20 million shoppers by the end of 2023 and a larger jump by 2024. The average annual online spend has also increased, reaching PKR 25,000.

Why a Unified Voice is Required: A Need For Collective Action

Despite this growth, Pakistan’s e-commerce industry faces several challenges that hinder its potential energy. Regulatory ambiguity, payment infrastructure limitations, logistics inefficiencies, and lack of standardization hinder the industry’s potential. Furthermore, the fragmented nature of the industry leads to duplicated efforts, inefficient resource allocation, and limited access to expertise as well as difficulty in addressing industry-wide issues. The e-commerce industry in Pakistan is fragmented, with numerous stakeholders operating in isolation.

To overcome this obstacle course and scale, collective action is necessary. By coming together, e-commerce stakeholders can leverage their collective strength to influence policy, share knowledge, and drive innovation. This collaboration will enable the industry to speak with greater authority, address shared challenges, and capitalize on opportunities.

A unified voice is essential to address these challenges and unlock the industry’s potential. By coming together, e-commerce stakeholders can:

– Speak as one industry on policy and regulatory issues
– Share knowledge and set best practices
– Collaborate on industry-wide initiatives
– Access shared expertise
– Enhance credibility and reputation for both the industry and the nation
– Remain non partisan and work with other associations and lobbies to improve cross stake holder engagement
