Zong has announced the results of its latest fifth generation mobile network trials conducted in Islamabad, where the operator recorded peak download speeds exceeding 1.4 gigabits per second. The tests were carried out across multiple urban environments as part of pre launch activities, aimed at evaluating network performance and readiness for broader deployment. According to the company, these results demonstrate the strength of its infrastructure and its ability to deliver high speed connectivity through optimized spectrum utilization.
The operator attributed its performance to improved output to spectrum efficiency, a factor that enables higher data throughput without requiring additional spectrum resources. These trials are part of a longer roadmap that Zong has been following over the past several years to prepare for fifth generation connectivity in Pakistan. The company noted that such benchmarks are essential to ensure stability and performance consistency before commercial rollout, particularly in densely populated urban areas where network demand remains high.
Zong also highlighted its earlier contributions to the development of fifth generation technology in the country. In 2019, the company conducted Pakistan’s first 5G trial and established an operational fifth generation node, marking an initial step towards adoption. This was followed in 2020 by South Asia’s first international fifth generation video call, demonstrating low latency communication capabilities. Between 2021 and 2025, the operator continued investing in infrastructure upgrades, artificial intelligence driven traffic management systems, and network optimization technologies to strengthen its overall ecosystem.
Looking ahead, Zong has outlined a three pillar strategy for its eventual commercial rollout, focusing on customer experience, service diversification, and artificial intelligence driven network management. The company aims to ensure a seamless transition for existing fourth generation users while introducing new services enabled by faster speeds and lower latency. These recent trials place Zong among the telecom operators actively progressing towards fifth generation deployment in Pakistan, following similar early test results shared by other industry players in recent weeks.
