Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has declared Pak Telecom Mobile Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited, eligible to participate in the upcoming spectrum auction for Next Generation Mobile Services and 5G technology. The development was disclosed by Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited through a notice submitted to Pakistan Stock Exchange, informing investors and stakeholders about the company’s participation in the auction process. According to the notice, any further developments regarding the auction will also be communicated to Pakistan Stock Exchange in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements.
Pakistan’s long anticipated 5G spectrum auction is scheduled to take place on March 10, 2026, marking a key development in the country’s telecom sector as operators prepare to roll out next generation mobile services. Industry participation in the auction appears strong, with major telecom companies already depositing advance participation fees. According to information shared with the National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication, leading telecom operators Jazz, Ufone and Zong have each submitted 15 million dollars as advance payments, bringing the total advance participation amount to 45 million dollars. The participation of multiple operators indicates growing industry interest in expanding high speed mobile internet infrastructure in Pakistan.
Officials informed the parliamentary committee that several spectrum bands will be offered during the auction process, providing telecom operators with an opportunity to acquire the frequencies required for 5G deployment. Under the framework established for the auction, each successful bidder will be required to acquire a minimum of 100 MHz of spectrum. The allocation is intended to ensure that operators have sufficient bandwidth to deliver high speed and reliable next generation mobile services once the rollout begins.
Initial 5G services are expected to be introduced in selected cities before wider expansion across the country. Industry observers note that the rollout of next generation mobile services could improve mobile internet speeds, network capacity and overall digital connectivity. Participation by Pak Telecom Mobile Limited alongside other telecom operators reflects the growing momentum within Pakistan’s telecom industry as it prepares for the transition toward advanced mobile network technologies.
