PTA has formally granted Next Generation Mobile Services and fifth-generation licences to Jazz, Zong, and Ufone, marking the official commencement of commercial 5G deployment across Pakistan. In a statement accompanying the licence grants, PTA directed all three licensed operators to publish updated lists on their official websites specifying the exact locations where fifth-generation services are currently available, alongside details of the fifth-generation-enabled smartphone models that are compatible with local network bands and approved for use in Pakistan. The directives are aimed at improving transparency and helping consumers make informed decisions as the new network technology begins its rollout across the country.
PTA clarified that all cellular mobile operators will introduce fifth-generation services in a phased manner, a measured approach designed to ensure network stability and maintain a high-quality user experience during the initial deployment period. The gradual expansion model will allow operators to monitor network performance and consumer response at each stage before extending coverage to additional areas, reducing the risk of quality degradation that can accompany rapid, large-scale network launches. At the current stage of the rollout, only supported smartphone models from leading manufacturers will be able to access fifth-generation services in covered areas, with service availability dependent on a combination of geographic location, network readiness, and individual device compatibility.
PTA advised consumers to enable fifth-generation settings on their devices and install the latest available operating system updates to ensure they can access optimal network performance in areas where coverage is live. The authority reaffirmed its commitment to overseeing a smooth and transparent nationwide transition to next-generation mobile services, positioning the phased rollout framework as a responsible approach to one of the most significant upgrades in Pakistan’s telecommunications infrastructure in more than a decade. As operators progressively expand their coverage footprints and device compatibility lists grow, the expectation is that fifth-generation access will become meaningfully broader in the months ahead.
