The Ministry of IT & Telecom has announced a significant academic and research opportunity for Pakistani students, enabling them to pursue advanced degrees at McMaster University in Canada. The initiative is targeted at graduates seeking admission into M.A.Sc. and Ph.D. programs in specialized, high-demand technology domains. This opportunity aims to strengthen the participation of Pakistani talent in global research ecosystems, particularly in emerging and future-critical disciplines.

The research positions are housed within McMaster University’s Department of Mechanical Engineering and will be supervised by Dr. Ryan Ahmed, a prominent academic associated with the McMaster Automotive Resource Center (MARC). MARC is known for its strong focus on applied engineering and innovation in the automotive and advanced manufacturing sectors. The areas of research include mechatronics, artificial intelligence, electric and autonomous vehicles, energy storage systems, and hybrid powertrain technologies.

This opportunity provides a pathway for Pakistani graduates to become part of global research projects, working on problems with practical, real-world impact. By focusing on electric mobility and automation technologies, the program reflects a growing global emphasis on sustainability and intelligent transportation systems. The Ministry of IT & Telecom is supporting this academic link to position Pakistani talent in areas that are reshaping the global tech industry.

Eligible candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science. Interested applicants can submit their applications online through the official link provided by the Ministry. Selected students will join a research environment that combines academic rigor with industry relevance, contributing to innovations that influence energy efficiency, vehicle automation, and AI integration in complex engineering systems.

The program also represents a broader strategic vision to build stronger connections between Pakistan’s tech education pipeline and global centers of innovation. By enabling local graduates to access research infrastructure and mentorship at institutions like McMaster, the Ministry is working to enhance the knowledge base of the country while also strengthening international academic partnerships.

Dr. Ryan Ahmed’s role at MARC ensures that selected researchers will benefit from mentorship in a multidisciplinary environment that integrates robotics, smart mobility, and intelligent control systems. McMaster University has consistently ranked among Canada’s leading institutions for engineering and applied sciences, and this collaboration is a major step toward internationalizing Pakistan’s academic presence in advanced engineering domains.

The Ministry continues to encourage young engineers and computer scientists to explore international opportunities that can help bring back valuable research experience and insight to Pakistan’s growing digital economy. Applications for the research positions can be submitted through this link, where further program details and eligibility requirements are available.
