Pakistan is experiencing a notable surge in digital connectivity, with the latest findings from the Household Integrated Economic Survey (HIES) 2024–25, released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, highlighting substantial growth in access to mobile and internet services nationwide. Pakistan Telecommunication Authority welcomed the report, emphasizing that these statistics reflect ongoing efforts to expand ICT infrastructure and improve affordability for households. According to the survey, over 96 percent of households now have access to mobile or smartphone facilities, and internet usage has risen sharply, with more than 70 percent of households using online services compared to just 34 percent in 2019.

Among provinces, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa stands out as a leader in household-level digital access, with 77 percent of homes connected. PTA noted that the improvements are the result of sustained regulatory and government initiatives aimed at increasing coverage, ensuring service availability, and promoting affordability of mobile devices and internet plans. The survey also captures individual-level trends, showing that mobile and smartphone ownership among people aged ten and above has increased from 45 percent in 2019 to 50 percent in 2025, while overall mobile usage now reaches 92 percent of the population.

Internet adoption at the individual level has grown even more sharply, rising from 17 percent in 2019 to 57 percent in 2025. The data reveals balanced access between men and women nationwide, with urban areas showing higher female engagement, where 71 percent of women use the internet compared to 67 percent of men. PTA highlighted that these trends reflect not only the expansion of connectivity infrastructure but also improvements in digital literacy, safer online practices, and enhanced awareness of technology among users. This development signals a more inclusive and accessible digital environment across Pakistan’s urban and rural regions.

PTA praised PBS for the comprehensive ICT data provided in HIES 2024–25, emphasizing that these insights form a solid foundation for informed policymaking, regulatory planning, and targeted development initiatives. The authority stressed that continued collaboration between government bodies, regulators, and private sector stakeholders will be essential to maintain growth, ensure equitable access, and further strengthen Pakistan’s position in the global digital landscape. As connectivity and digital skills continue to improve, the survey findings offer a clear indication of Pakistan’s progress toward a more digitally connected society.
