Pakistani government is taking steps to boost foreign investment by streamlining key ministries. Ministry of Information Technology (IT) and Telecommunication is undergoing a restructuring process aimed at enhancing efficiency and attracting skilled professionals.
Terms of Reference (TORs) have been drafted to guide the restructuring. These TORs were developed with input from various departments within the ministry, including IT, Telecom, Legal, and Internal Coordination.
The restructuring plan involves hiring skilled technicians and consultants to revitalize the IT and Telecom sectors. To achieve this, the Establishment Division is expected to create competitive pay scales to attract top talent.
This initiative involves collaboration between different departments within the ministries. Each department will identify its specific needs for qualified professionals and technicians.
Sources also suggest that the recent extension of the retirement age for key positions, up to 65 years, could prove beneficial. This extended window allows for a larger pool of experienced and qualified candidates. Additionally, selected individuals might be offered salaries reaching Rs. 2 million per month.
Furthermore, the restructuring plan grants ministries greater flexibility in engaging consultancy firms. These firms can provide capacity building support and assist with undertaking major international projects.
The government’s focus on revamping ministries signifies a strategic shift towards creating a more attractive environment for foreign investors. By prioritizing efficiency and attracting skilled professionals, Pakistan aims to unlock its full potential in the IT and Telecom sectors.
