The caretaker Federal Minister for Railways, Communication & Maritime Affairs, Shahid Ashraf Tarar, inaugurated an Internet of Things (IoT) based Fuel Monitoring System at Margalla Station in Islamabad, marking a significant step in the digitization of Pakistan Railways.
This initiative by the Ministry of Railways aims to equip locomotives with cutting-edge gadgets for online monitoring, emphasizing financial and operational efficiency, with a particular focus on safety measures.
The IT-based online system is anticipated to save approximately 15 percent of the fuel budget, enhancing operational efficiency and targeted maintenance while curbing wastage and pilferage. A user-friendly dashboard is under development, providing a one-click access to all relevant information.
Key features of the system include real-time monitoring of fuel consumption, refueling, average speed, idle time, real-time location tracking, and maintenance requirements. Notably, the system allows the analysis of the driver’s behavior for enhanced safety measures.
The dashboard incorporates safety features that trigger a red pop-up for abnormal fluctuations in fuel consumption patterns. Additionally, the system generates automatic detailed analyses of the data, facilitating better and timely decision-making for the railways. Overall, the IoT-based Fuel Monitoring System ensures a smoother and safer travel experience for passengers.
