Pakistan Railways is set to introduce a new high-tech business train on July 19, featuring 28 modern coaches equipped with digital amenities aimed at enhancing passenger convenience and experience. The service will include complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi, upgraded seating, and an international-standard dining car, representing a significant step in the department’s ongoing modernization drive. The train is expected to cater to business travelers and regular passengers seeking improved comfort and connectivity during their journeys.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to inaugurate the service in Lahore, underscoring the government’s support for improving public transportation infrastructure through innovation and digital integration. This latest addition is part of a broader strategy by Pakistan Railways to upgrade its services through the use of digital technologies and improved customer interfaces.

The business train will also support Pakistan Railways’ reform agenda, which includes the introduction of a digital ticketing system and enhanced onboard services. The department is investing in modernizing not just its rolling stock but also station infrastructure to align with evolving passenger expectations and international standards. With digital ticketing, passengers will be able to book, manage, and access services more efficiently, reducing reliance on manual systems and improving operational workflows.

In parallel to the launch of the new train, Pakistan Railways has shared an update on its revenue-generating activities over the past three years. The department reported earnings of over Rs 3.95 billion from the operation of brake and luggage vans, with a substantial portion generated through the outsourcing of these services to private contractors. According to officials, the outsourcing is conducted through an open and transparent tendering process to ensure fair competition, accountability, and quality assurance. The move is designed to increase efficiency while also creating opportunities for public-private collaboration within the transport sector.

Officials noted that the consistent revenue growth from outsourced services indicates the potential for further expansion of such models in other operational areas of Pakistan Railways. The ministry views this approach as a means to improve service delivery while managing operational costs. It also aligns with the broader public sector goal of leveraging private sector expertise in infrastructure and logistics management.

The new digital business train reflects a strategic shift toward technology-driven passenger services that prioritize accessibility, reliability, and customer satisfaction. With additional enhancements to onboard services and a focus on digitally integrated systems, the initiative aims to make rail travel a more attractive and competitive option across Pakistan. As digital upgrades continue across stations and train lines, Pakistan Railways is positioning itself to serve a new generation of travelers who value seamless connectivity, efficiency, and modern infrastructure in public transport.
