In a bid to ensure clean and transparent wheat procurement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed authorities to leverage technology and implement a mobile phone application for the process. The announcement came during a meeting on Monday regarding wheat stocks in Lahore.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the Pakistan Agricultural Storage & Services Corporation’s (PASSCO) performance, the Prime Minister ordered the suspension of the Managing Director and General Manager (Procurement) for neglecting the use of technology and failing to follow previous instructions.
To ensure greater accountability, Prime Minister Sharif also directed a third-party audit of PASSCO’s stock.
Recognizing the importance of farmer security, the Prime Minister emphasized the need for crop insurance. He further directed PASSCO to procure an additional four lakh metric tons of wheat through a transparent and efficient process, ensuring that farmers receive fair compensation and experience no losses.
PM Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the government’s commitment to recognizing excellence within PASSCO. He announced plans to identify and commend high-performing centers and officers at the government level.
The Prime Minister’s directives underscore the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring food security in Pakistan. He reiterated their dedication to implementing all necessary measures for the prosperity of the nation’s farmers.
