Pakistan Bureau of Statistics has launched the Household Integrated Economic Survey 2024 25, marking a significant step toward strengthening data driven policymaking and public welfare planning across the country. The nationwide survey aims to provide reliable insights into education, health, income patterns and cost of living trends to support informed decision making for millions of households. According to PBS, the initiative is intended to improve service delivery and enable evidence based policies that directly address socio economic needs at both federal and provincial levels.
The launch ceremony was attended by Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal and hosted by Chief Statistician Dr Naeem uz Zafar, along with senior officials including Muhammad Sarwar Gondal, Member Social Statistics and Research Methodology, and Rabia Awan, Deputy Director General for PSLM and PCS. Representatives from the Ministry of Planning, members of the Technical Committee, key stakeholders and PBS officers were also present. PBS confirmed that the results of the HIES 2024 25 have been completed and released, describing the exercise as a major milestone in strengthening Pakistan’s national data system. Endorsed by the Technical Committee, the survey offers a comprehensive view of socio economic conditions and serves as a core reference for policy formulation, academic research and private sector analysis.
Addressing the event, the Federal Minister highlighted the transformation of the Planning Ministry and PBS into modern, data oriented institutions capable of supporting national development priorities. He noted that long standing institutional backlogs are being addressed while analytical capacity is being enhanced to improve the quality and use of official statistics. Referring to recent achievements such as the digital population census, Digital Agriculture Census and the Economic Survey, he said the Household Integrated Economic Survey would further enable researchers, policymakers and businesses to make informed decisions that benefit citizens. He also observed that the survey reflects economic pressures faced since 2018 and the effects of global crises, particularly on middle income households, while expressing confidence that Pakistan has entered a recovery phase and is moving toward sustainable growth. He projected GDP growth of around 4 percent in the current fiscal year and said the government’s cautious economic strategy is designed to safeguard public interests while ensuring long term stability.
The minister emphasized the importance of social development indicators highlighted by the survey, noting improvements in health outcomes, digital access and household income levels. At the same time, he stressed the urgency of addressing the education emergency, pointing out that millions of children remain out of school despite progress in other areas. He underlined that political stability, continuity of policy and effective implementation of the 5Es Framework under URAAN Pakistan are critical to achieving inclusive development and raising living standards nationwide. Conducted regularly since 1963, the Household Integrated Economic Survey supports monitoring of socio economic indicators and progress toward Sustainable Development Goals. The 2024 25 edition is the first fully digital iteration of the survey, covering 32000 households across Pakistan through an integrated ERP based system. PBS stated that the results demonstrate measurable progress in education, health, digital connectivity and income, providing a strong foundation for people centric and inclusive development policies aligned with Pakistan’s digital transformation agenda.
