National Information Technology Board (NITB) has completed the testing phase of the Beep application, a secure communication platform specifically developed for government employees. The application was successfully tested within the Ministry of IT and its affiliated departments, and it is now in the clearance process to ensure compliance with stringent security, encryption, and hosting standards before being officially rolled out for federal employees.

As part of the clearance process, technical evaluations of encryption protocols, firewall security, and data protection mechanisms are being conducted. Cybersecurity experts and relevant government agencies are reviewing the app to identify and mitigate any vulnerabilities before its final deployment. Several modifications were made during the testing phase, including a redesigned user interface that now resembles WhatsApp, making it more familiar and user-friendly for government employees.

The Beep app has been built to support up to five million users and is hosted on National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) servers, ensuring that all communication and data remain within Pakistan’s borders. It employs end-to-end encryption protocols similar to those used by WhatsApp to provide a secure communication channel for government officials. The app will be exclusively available to government employees, with no access provided to the general public.

To ensure security, government employees will need to go through a document verification process before gaining access to the platform. Upon approval, they will receive unique access codes for authentication. The app is structured with multiple layers of access, ensuring that communication remains restricted within and between ministries. Each ministry will have a dedicated communication layer with separate channels for internal discussions. Additionally, a specialized layer has been implemented for direct communication between secretaries of different ministries.

The launch of the Beep app is part of a broader initiative to enhance secure digital communication within government departments, reducing reliance on third-party messaging applications. By offering a secure and controlled environment for official communication, the government aims to safeguard sensitive information while improving efficiency in inter-ministerial coordination.
