The dream of a Pakistan Digital City in Haripur is inching closer to reality. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board (KPITB) and the Special Technology Zones Authority (STZA) signed a landmark agreement, officially designating the project as a Special Technology Zone (STZ).

This designation is a significant boost for Pakistan’s technological ambitions.  The STZ status grants tax breaks to businesses operating within the zone, including a crucial 10-year tax exemption for IT companies. This move aims to attract both domestic and international IT giants, fostering innovation and accelerating technological advancements.

The ceremony witnessed the participation of prominent figures like Mr. Khalid Latif Khan, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Science & Technology and Information Technology, and Mr. Syed Muhammad Ali Shah, Secretary ST&IT. Representatives from both STZA and KPITB were also present.

Mr. Khan emphasized the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s commitment to digital transformation under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Ali Amin Gandapur.  The substantial investment of 1.642 billion rupees signifies the province’s vision to become Pakistan’s digital hub.

The Pakistan Digital City project is expected to act as a catalyst for economic growth. By attracting major IT players, the initiative aims to create significant job opportunities for the youth, a key priority for the provincial government.  Mr. Khan also highlighted the project’s progress, with nearly 30% of the work already completed.

This agreement marks a pivotal moment for Pakistan’s technological future. The collaborative effort between KPITB and STZA paves the way for a thriving digital ecosystem, fostering innovation, economic prosperity, and ultimately positioning Pakistan as a hub for technology-driven ventures.
