Pakistan and Qatar have reaffirmed their commitment to deepen cooperation in the education sector with a renewed focus on technical and vocational education and training, skills development programmes, academic exchange initiatives, and institutional linkages between educational bodies of both countries. The understanding was reached during a meeting held in Islamabad between Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training Wajiha Qamar and Ali Al Khater, Ambassador of Qatar to Pakistan, where both sides reviewed ongoing efforts to enhance collaboration in human resource development and explore new avenues for partnership in the education landscape.
During the discussion, both sides emphasised the importance of aligning education and training systems with modern labour market requirements, particularly by expanding opportunities in technical and vocational education and training to equip young people with market-relevant skills. The Pakistani side highlighted its commitment to improving access to quality education and strengthening international partnerships that can support workforce readiness, while also focusing on capacity-building initiatives that can help bridge skill gaps in emerging economic sectors. Qatar’s representatives reiterated their interest in expanding cooperation with Pakistan in areas such as technical training, scholarships, and structured academic exchange programmes aimed at fostering greater mobility for students and educators between the two countries.
Both sides also discussed the possibility of developing stronger institutional linkages between universities, technical institutes, and vocational training centres to promote joint research, faculty development, and knowledge sharing. The conversation further explored structured mechanisms for student and teacher exchange programmes that could contribute to long-term educational cooperation and improved quality standards in learning outcomes. These engagements were framed within a broader understanding of strengthening bilateral relations through people-to-people contact and shared development goals in the education sector, particularly in areas that support innovation, digital learning, and inclusive education practices.
The meeting concluded with a shared resolve to continue advancing collaboration in education and professional training as part of wider Pakistan-Qatar relations, which have consistently included cooperation in trade, investment, and development sectors. Both countries agreed to further explore practical steps for implementing joint initiatives that can support skill development and enhance youth employability, reflecting a mutual interest in building a more skilled and competitive workforce. The renewed engagement is expected to pave the way for more structured cooperation frameworks in the coming months, particularly in areas linked to vocational training and higher education partnerships.
