U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker called on Federal Minister for IT & Telecom, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, to discuss avenues of strengthening Pak–U.S. cooperation in the IT and digital economy sector. The meeting highlighted shared priorities in advancing digital transformation, innovation, and economic growth through closer bilateral engagement. Ms. Baker, a seasoned diplomat with a strong background in digital and economic diplomacy, brings a wealth of experience to the dialogue. Having served as Deputy Chief of Mission in Islamabad and having held multiple diplomatic roles across the Middle East and North Africa, she emphasized the importance of collaboration in driving forward mutual goals in technology and digital development.

During the meeting, both sides explored opportunities to deepen engagement in areas such as IT-enabled services, innovation ecosystems, and the wider digital economy. The discussions reflected a mutual recognition of the critical role technology now plays in shaping modern economies, from enhancing trade competitiveness to expanding access to digital platforms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja underscored the government’s commitment to accelerating Pakistan’s digital transformation under the vision of creating a tech-driven economy that not only fuels growth but also generates opportunities for young professionals, entrepreneurs, and businesses. She highlighted that building a strong digital ecosystem requires trusted global partnerships, and U.S. support can play a key role in strengthening Pakistan’s innovation capacity.

Natalie A. Baker expressed the U.S. government’s willingness to continue engaging with Pakistan in fostering innovation-led economic development. She noted that cooperation in digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, IT exports, and skills development can open up new pathways for collaboration. Both sides agreed that fostering public-private linkages and knowledge exchange between the two countries’ tech industries could accelerate progress and ensure sustainable outcomes. The Chargé d’Affaires reiterated that strengthening ties in the digital space not only benefits the IT sector but also enhances broader economic and diplomatic relations between Pakistan and the United States.

The engagement between Shaza Fatima Khawaja and Natalie A. Baker marks another step in Pakistan’s efforts to position itself as a competitive player in the global digital economy. With the Ministry of IT & Telecom leading initiatives to expand connectivity, improve regulatory frameworks, and encourage innovation-driven growth, such collaborations are expected to further open avenues for investment and partnership. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continued dialogue and practical cooperation in building a digitally empowered future that serves the needs of both nations.
