The team of students from NUST Airworks, based at Pakistan Navy Engineering College (PNEC), represented Pakistan with distinction at Teknofest 2023. Their exceptional project earned them the Performance Award and a cash prize from TÜBITAK. The project focused on a hybrid VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) configuration with autonomous capabilities, designed for search and rescue missions and aid delivery to disaster-stricken areas. The team’s dedication to innovation and addressing real-world challenges was evident in their development of drones capable of landing on any platform without a runway.

The successful implementation of complex missions in their UAVs was made possible through the use of state-of-the-art technology and flight controllers provided by their Avionics Sponsor, CUAV.

Teknofest, organized by the Turkish government and held in Bursa this year, provided an opportunity for the team to showcase their project and overcome challenges related to team awareness, flight checks, and a real flight on the runway. Their impressive performance in the competition led to meetings with influential figures such as Selçuk Bayraktar, the CTO of Baykar Drones, and the Minister of Turkish Science and Technology, TÜBITAK’s Hassan Mandal. These interactions allowed the team to learn from industry experts and expand their knowledge and skills.

The entire NUST family takes great pride in the achievements of team Airworks and wishes them the best of luck in their future endeavors. Their success at Teknofest highlights the talent and dedication of Pakistani students in the field of aviation and technology.
