The National Information Technology Board has underscored the role of digital health systems in promoting inclusion, marking World Autism Awareness Day with a focus on improving healthcare accessibility for all citizens. The organisation highlighted its One Patient One ID initiative as a step towards building a more connected and patient centric healthcare ecosystem in Pakistan.
According to the board, the initiative is designed to create a unified digital health identity for individuals, enabling seamless access to medical records and services across different healthcare providers. By integrating patient data into a single system, the programme aims to ensure continuity of care while improving coordination between institutions. Officials noted that such systems are particularly important for individuals requiring long term or specialised care, including persons on the autism spectrum.
The One Patient One ID framework is part of broader efforts to digitise healthcare infrastructure in the country. Through secure and centralised data management, the system seeks to enhance efficiency, reduce duplication, and support informed decision making by healthcare professionals. The initiative also reflects ongoing collaboration between public sector institutions working under Ministry of IT and Telecommunication Pakistan and health related departments to strengthen digital transformation in public services.
By linking digital innovation with healthcare delivery, NITB aims to support a system that is accessible anytime and anywhere, ensuring that patients receive consistent and coordinated treatment. The emphasis on inclusion highlights a growing policy direction where technology is being used not only for efficiency but also to address gaps in accessibility and equity. As digital health initiatives continue to expand, such programmes are expected to play a key role in shaping a more integrated healthcare landscape in Pakistan.
