National Incubation Center Makes Its Way to Karachi

The National Incubation Center in Lahore, Peshawar and Islamabad are the first of their kind launched under the public – private partnership of Ministry of IT & Telecom, National ICT R&D Fund now called Ignite and private sector companies.

Now ready to serve and prepare the startup community in Karachi, Ministry of IT & Telecom, Ignite, PTCL, LMKT, HBL and NED University formed a consortium to launch the Karachi version of the National Incubation Center. The launch ceremony took place on 11th May 2018 at NED University with Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and State Minister IT and Telecom, Ms. Anusha Rahman inaugurating the facility.

The incubation center is being set up by LMKT in collaboration with NED University, Habib Bank, Pakistan Telecommunication Company and Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund, funded by Ignite, formerly called National ICT R&D Fund.

Shahjahan Chaudhary Project Director for NIC Karachi speaking to a local newspaper said,

“NIC Karachi will tap innovative spirit of the region by helping young minds create newer,
disruptive solutions that can positively impact businesses by addressing their future challenge
s.”

The center is to provide as a hubfor talented entrepreneurs and promising start-ups of Sindh quality incubation programs, access to mentor and investor networks as well as technical resources.

The center is to empower Sindh based entrepreneurs and will help in identifying and nurturing promising start-ups by running various programs that will range from two-day boot camps to year-long acceleration programs.

Furthermore, the center is also to include the SPARK Accelerator program that is to work on digital transformation in 13 areas of focus including fintech, real estate, commerce, cyber security and robotics.

Amongst the attendees were members of the ministry The event ended with a tour of the very tastefully done incubation center, followed by dinner and networking.
