A group of prominent Pakistani business leaders, led by Atif Ikram Sheikh, President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), is set to launch a new airline, Air Karachi.
The airline, which is currently in the initial stages of development, aims to offer domestic and international flight services. It plans to start operations with a fleet of three leased aircraft and gradually expand its network.
The venture is backed by a consortium of investors, including Aqeel Karim Dhedhi, Arif Habib, Bashir Janmohammad, Zubair Tufail, Hanif Gohar, Khalid Tawab, Sheikh Umer Rehan, and Hamza Tabani. The airline’s leadership team includes retired Air Vice Marshal Syed Imran Majid Ali as CEO.
Air Karachi’s business model is inspired by the success of AirSial, a regional airline based in Sialkot. The new airline aims to provide affordable, high-quality air travel services to passengers.
The launch of Air Karachi comes amidst the government’s failed attempt to privatize Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). The government’s inability to attract significant foreign investment for PIA has led to increased interest in private sector initiatives to revive the country’s aviation industry.
Atif Ikram Sheikh emphasized the importance of a strong domestic airline industry for Pakistan’s economic growth and connectivity. He expressed confidence in the potential of Air Karachi to contribute to the country’s aviation sector and provide passengers with a superior travel experience.
