The National Center of GIS and Space Applications (NCGSA) has welcomed space enthusiasts and visual creators from around the world to share their creative work in the genres of animation, fiction, and documentary at the 180 Seconds Space Film Festival (180SSFF).
Following its mandate for space awareness, education, and outreach, the NCGSA’s Institute of Space Technology (IST) seeks to engage the artistic community in exploring the beauties, wonders, and uses of space science and technology via their creative lens.
According to an NCGSA official, the film festival’s topic would be “Space Science, Technology, and its Applications.”
The film’s submission date is August 31, 2021, and the choice will be made in the month of October. Whereas the grand finale will take place in the month of November
Participants can research themes and concepts for their plays such as ‘Peeping into the sky through telescopes,’ ‘Aliens and Extraterrestrial Life,’ and ‘Wonders of satellites and their constellations,’ among others.
Participants can concentrate on the other concept, which is ‘Satellite Technology Applications for Agriculture, Environment, Climate, Geoscience, Surveillance, Disaster & Hazard Management, Geo Forensic, Geo Health, Help and Rescue, Urban Planning, Communication, Navigation, Transportation, Meteorology, Smart Cities and Communities, and so on.’
‘Story of Launch Vehicles and Ground Stations’; ‘Life of an Astronaut, Life at Space Station, Space Life’; ‘Colonizing at Other Planets’; ‘Mission Moon – Mission Mars’; ‘Astronomy, Astrophysics, and Astrobiology’; ‘Space Travel’; ‘Cosmology’; and ‘Space Mission Design and Careers in Space Technology’ are some other ideas.
According to APP, the best film in each genre will receive a cash prize of 50K PKR, and all submitted productions will receive a Certificate of Participation (Team Certificate).
Best Editing, Best Sound Design, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, and Best Film Poster will be among the five extra technical award titles and certificates presented.
There is no registration or screening charge, and you can submit as many times as you like. However, entries cannot be withdrawn once they have been submitted, and each contribution should include a copyright declaration document that can be downloaded.
All contributions (with all rights reserved) will be made via a WeTransfer link. The maximum duration, including titles and credits, is 180 seconds, while the minimum duration, including titles and credits, is 90 seconds.
The festival is open to people of all ages and nationalities.
According to the official, the material of the submission should be original, copyright-free (common media licence), and not infringe on any third party’s intellectual property rights or privacy rights.
The submission must be appropriate for public viewing and must not contain any material that poses a threat to any entity, organisation, place, group, religion, race, culture, or world peace, as well as any content that violates national or international law or is obscene or vulgar.
The format, according to the official, allows for the use of any language or voice over, and all submissions must have English subtitles. Copyright-free sound effects and music should be utilised in movies. Only MP4/MPEG/MOV formats are acceptable, and the quality of the contributions must be at least 720p.
The jury’s decisions will be final and non-reversible, and the submissions will be judged on their creativity, ingenuity, and connection to the theme.
