Pakistan IT Industry Association (P@SHA) has reported the successful completion of the National Skill Competency Test on April 4 and 5, 2026, an initiative designed to bridge the skill gap between industry and academia in computing education. The test was conducted under a structured consultative process led by HEC Pakistan in partnership with the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication Pakistan, PSEB, and P@SHA. The assessment framework was developed through a dedicated Technical Committee comprising representatives from academia, industry, and accreditation bodies, ensuring that the test evaluated competencies aligned with current professional standards.
Virtual University of Pakistan served as the testing authority, managing the computer-based assessments, while the coordination, verification, and facilitation of the process were overseen by a Secretariat established at National Computing Education Accreditation Council. This collaboration ensured the integrity of the test administration and allowed participating students to engage in an examination designed to accurately measure their technical skills against nationally recognized benchmarks. The NSCT represents a concerted effort to standardize skill evaluation for students in advanced semesters of computing programs, including Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence.
The initiative has been recognized for providing students with a clear understanding of industry expectations, fostering practical skills that complement their academic learning. High-performing candidates are awarded certificates endorsed by HEC, PSEB, and P@SHA, which can enhance employability prospects and highlight readiness for real-world technology roles. By involving multiple regulatory, academic, and industry bodies in the process, the test exemplifies a coordinated approach toward cultivating a workforce equipped with competencies demanded in Pakistan’s growing IT and software export sector.
Officials involved in the test highlighted that such initiatives provide a platform for students to benchmark their capabilities and gain recognition at a national level, while also supporting policy objectives aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s technology ecosystem. Interested participants and institutions can access more details about the test and upcoming opportunities through the official NSCT portal here. With the successful execution of the NSCT, stakeholders continue to reinforce the importance of practical skill assessments and structured collaboration between academic institutions and industry leaders in Pakistan’s technology landscape.
