National Assembly’s Standing Committee on IT and Telecom has urged the federal government to finalize a freelancer policy within 90 days. During a meeting on Monday, the committee emphasized the importance of this policy in supporting the growth of Pakistan’s freelancing industry.

The committee also received a briefing on the upcoming 5G spectrum auction, which is scheduled for next year. The government has hired a consultant to determine the number of licenses to be auctioned and the eligible companies. Telecom companies are actively preparing for the transition to 5G, and the committee urged swift action to ensure its launch by next year.

Regarding the Universal Service Fund (USF), the committee was informed that the fund has paid Rs. 16 billion to the federal government, while Rs. 40.5 billion remains unpaid. The recent disbursement of funds was facilitated by the intervention of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC).

The committee also discussed the implementation of the e-office initiative, aimed at digitizing government operations. The Prime Minister has mandated that all summaries must be processed through the e-office system starting October 1. Ministries have been instructed to expedite the full implementation of this system.

The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on IT and Telecom continues to play a vital role in overseeing the development and implementation of digital policies in Pakistan. By addressing these key issues, the committee aims to contribute to the country’s digital transformation and economic growth.
