The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with 15 leading Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across Pakistan to foster research, development, and innovation in identity and registration-related technologies. This strategic collaboration, approved by the NADRA Authority Board, aims to enhance the country’s technological capabilities in cybersecurity, biometrics, data management, and AI-driven analytics.
The MoU signing ceremony, held at NADRA Headquarters, was attended by Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, key university representatives, and NADRA officials. The initiative aligns with Section 5(4)(i) of the NADRA Ordinance 2000, ensuring that academia plays a crucial role in advancing the organization’s research and technological landscape.
As part of the partnership, NADRA will sponsor graduate training programs, research theses, and R&D projects at partner universities. The authority will also introduce incentive programs, including medals and cash prizes for students who successfully contribute to identity and registration innovations. Additionally, NADRA’s Talent Hunt Programme will provide fresh graduates from these institutions with hands-on experience through internships, bridging the gap between academic learning and industry requirements.
Speaking at the event, Chairman NADRA emphasized the significance of academia-industry collaboration in solving real-world identity management challenges. Chairman HEC echoed these sentiments, highlighting universities’ role in driving Pakistan’s technological advancements.
The initial phase of this collaboration includes partnerships with Quaid-e-Azam University, Air University, International Islamic University, Bahria University, Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute, Riphah International University, FAST-NUCES, University of Engineering & Technology Lahore, NED University Karachi, Virtual University, Pak Austria Fachhochschule, Capital University of Science and Technology, Sukkur IBA University, University of Balochistan, and BUITEMS Quetta. Future phases will expand the initiative to institutions in Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, interior Sindh, and Balochistan.
By leveraging academic expertise and cutting-edge research, NADRA aims to strengthen Pakistan’s digital identity infrastructure, ensuring secure, efficient, and future-ready registration solutions.
