Motorola appears to be working on a new premium smartwatch, judging from images that have recently emerged online. Earlier this year, the company launched the standard Moto Watch, a budget priced device that significantly undercut both the Google Pixel Watch 4 and the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 on price while offering an extended 13 day battery life, positioning it as an affordable alternative in a wearables market often dominated by pricier flagship devices.
Now it appears Motorola is developing a more premium follow up device. The Mac Observer has obtained images of a wearable operating under the working name Moto Watch Ultra, which would place it in direct competition with devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, the Apple Watch Ultra 3, and the Huawei Watch Ultimate, all of which occupy the higher end, ruggedized segment of the smartwatch market. The design shown in the leaked images is not dramatically different from the standard Moto Watch, retaining the same rotating crown and side button placement, but appears to be a more premium product overall, featuring a 46mm stainless steel case paired with a black leather style strap rather than the more casual materials used on the base model.
The rear of the device, visible in the leaked images, appears to confirm several of its specifications, including built in GPS, LTE connectivity, IP68 dust and water resistance, and water protection down to 50 metres. The images also show a glimpse of an optical sensor system, suggesting the Ultra model will include advanced health and fitness tracking capabilities in line with what competing premium smartwatches typically offer. The watch face shown in the leak appears similar to the one that accompanied the original Moto Watch launch, displaying data on steps, calories, time, and date, though this remains only a glimpse of the software experience rather than a full look at the interface.
Beyond these visual and specification details, little else is known about the device at this stage, including when Motorola plans to launch it or in which regions it might become available. Given the direction Motorola has taken with its standard Moto Watch, the company will likely continue steering clear of Google’s Wear OS platform in favor of another partnership with Polar, and could potentially undercut its premium rivals on price the same way its budget model did against competitors like the Pixel Watch and Galaxy Watch. In separate but related Motorola news, prominent leaker Evan Blass has posted a teaser referencing a new product under the name Razr Flex, fueling speculation about whether the company is preparing another foldable device with a wider aspect ratio or an entirely new hinge mechanism, following the strong reception of its existing Razr foldable lineup.
