Meta, the parent company behind Instagram, has launched Instagram’s Teen Accounts in Pakistan, in collaboration with Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). This initiative aims to enhance online protection for young users, providing a safer digital environment for Pakistan’s youth.
The Teen Accounts feature automatically places users under 16 into a protected environment, restricting unwanted contact and filtering sensitive content, while allowing safe digital exploration. This move is part of Meta’s global safety initiatives, empowering millions of teenagers worldwide, including in Pakistan, to enjoy a secure online experience.
The launch event was attended by representatives from Meta, UNICEF/NCRC, and key child protection stakeholders. The program included awareness sessions and live demonstrations on online safety tools, complaint mechanisms, and best practices for youth digital wellbeing.
Addressing the ceremony, Chairman PTA, Major General (R) Hafeez ur Rehman, HI (M) SI, reaffirmed PTA’s commitment to building a safer digital ecosystem, emphasizing that the launch of Teen Accounts should help protect Pakistan’s youth online. Dr. Priyanka Bhalla, Head of Safety Policy for South Asia at Meta, appreciated PTA’s continued collaboration, noting that Meta’s global safety initiatives are empowering millions of teenagers worldwide, including in Pakistan, to enjoy a secure online experience.
This collaboration marks a significant step towards promoting digital safety and responsible online behavior among young users in Pakistan. By working together, Meta and PTA aim to create a safer and more secure online environment for Pakistan’s youth, enabling them to harness the benefits of digital technology while minimizing potential risks.
