Government has appointed retired Lieutenant General Moazzam Ejaz as the new Chairperson of the National Technology Council (NTC). The appointment, effective from July 29, 2024, was officially announced by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) which oversees the council.

Lt. Gen. Ejaz, a seasoned professional with a background in engineering and academia, currently holds the position of Rector at the National University of Technology (NUTECH) in Islamabad. His appointment comes as a strategic move to leverage his expertise in guiding the nation’s technological advancement.

The NTC, a pivotal body responsible for formulating and overseeing Pakistan’s technology policies, will benefit from Lt. Gen. Ejaz’s leadership. His tenure is expected to be marked by a renewed focus on research and development, technology transfer, and digital infrastructure development.

It’s worth noting that the Chairperson’s role is honorary, with no salary attached. However, the incumbent will receive an honorarium and allowances as stipulated by the council’s bylaws.

The appointment has been met with anticipation as the nation looks forward to the council’s role in driving technological innovation and contributing to the country’s overall development.

Launched in 1967 internationally, ComputerWorld is the oldest tech magazine/media property in the world. In Pakistan, ComputerWorld was launched in 1995.
