Lenovo has taken the stage at IFA 2025 with an interesting showcase of concept and peripheral hardware designed to appeal to professionals and tech enthusiasts. Among the highlights was the ThinkBook VertiFlex, a concept laptop that features a rotatable 14-inch display, offering the ability to shift between portrait and landscape orientation without repositioning the entire device. The laptop is housed in a slim 17.9mm chassis and weighs just 1.39 kilograms, giving it portability alongside flexibility. Although still in concept phase with no confirmed specifications, the design suggests practical applications such as split-screen multitasking, code review, document editing, or viewing vertical content. Lenovo has also built in Smart Connect support, enabling smartphone tethering to mirror content onto the larger screen for extended productivity. While the VertiFlex remains experimental for now, its debut signals an exploration into new laptop form factors that respond to evolving user demands.
Alongside the concept laptop, Lenovo introduced the ThinkPad Thunderbolt 5 Smart Dock 7500, a docking station designed to take advantage of the latest Thunderbolt 5 standard. Offering up to 120 Gbps of bandwidth, the dock supports extensive display configurations, including three 8K monitors at 60 Hz and one 4K monitor at 60 Hz simultaneously. Users can also opt for combinations such as dual 4K 240 Hz or dual 4K 120 Hz setups depending on their workflow. Importantly, the dock provides PD 3.1 charging support with up to 180W of power delivery, making it suitable for powering and connecting multiple high-demand devices. This level of bandwidth and power support positions the dock as a versatile accessory for professionals handling resource-intensive visual and computational tasks.
Lenovo has also refreshed its Thunderbolt 4 Smart Dock Gen 2 7500, which now supports up to a single 8K 60 Hz monitor or dual 4K 144 Hz displays. In addition, it incorporates PD 3.1 power delivery of up to 100W, providing more flexibility to users with devices that do not yet utilize Thunderbolt 5. Both docks expand Lenovo’s accessory ecosystem, giving users advanced options depending on their connectivity needs. The Thunderbolt 5 Smart Dock 7500 will be available in October with a starting price of €399, while the Thunderbolt 4 Gen 2 7500 will be priced at €299.
While the ThinkBook VertiFlex remains in concept stage, the introduction of the Thunderbolt 5 Smart Dock 7500 shows Lenovo’s commitment to supporting new hardware standards. The concept laptop offers a glimpse at how future devices might improve workflow flexibility, while the docking solutions provide immediate, tangible benefits for users managing multiple displays and devices. Together, these announcements highlight Lenovo’s approach to expanding beyond traditional laptops, blending portability with powerful connectivity in ways that support both experimental and professional use cases.
