In recent news, a digital site dubbed ‘LawyHER.pk’ was formally launched, and it will have forums such as an information desk, networking possibilities, a female practitioner’s directory, interviews and updates, as well as other important resources such as the contribution of women to law.
The goal of launching the app was to increase women’s legal representation. The application is a collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Law and Justice, Group Development Pakistan, and the Women in Law Initiative Pakistan, with support from the Australian and British High Commissions in Pakistan.
Nida Usman Chaudhary, the project’s Lead Consultant/Curator and the founder of Women in Law Initiative, said:
“We sought to build a long-term platform that would give women in law exposure and make data, resources, and opportunities available in a way that would provide solutions to our common difficulties and struggles through the use of technology, and that would survive beyond the project’s lifespan.”
In addition, a baseline study on the status of women’s representation in the legal system was introduced, which comprises data from four separate categories: the court, bar council members, advocates, and prosecutors. Furthermore, the data has been compiled, and the study’s source has been used as a reference.
Barrister Maleeka Bokhari, Parliamentary Secretary for the Federal Ministry of Law and Justice, said, “There is so much potential in Pakistani women, but they need the correct venue to demonstrate their talent.”
In a nutshell, this will increase women’s inclusion in the legal community and ensure that women’s rights are respected.
