The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has officially launched an electronic driving licence, allowing motorists across the province to carry and present their driving credentials entirely through their smartphones, eliminating the need for a physical licence card in day-to-day driving and documentation scenarios.
The electronic licence has been developed jointly by the provincial Transport Department, the KP Information Technology Board, and the Dastak Digital Platform, bringing together the three institutions responsible for transport regulation, digital infrastructure, and citizen service delivery in the province under a single coordinated initiative. The digital licence is embedded with a secure Quick Response code that enables instant online verification by traffic police, government departments, and courts nationwide, reducing the scope for forgery or document tampering that has historically been a vulnerability with conventional physical cards. Law enforcement agencies and relevant institutions have been directed to recognise the electronic licence as a fully valid alternative to the physical card, ensuring that motorists do not face challenges when presenting digital credentials at checkpoints or in official proceedings.
Chief Minister Sohail Afridi’s administration described the launch as a major step toward modernising public services and promoting people-centric e-governance across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, framing it as part of the province’s broader push toward digital transparency and accessible government services. The launch follows a series of other digital governance initiatives introduced by the KP government in recent weeks, including online First Information Report registration, the Police Service Management App, and a revamped domicile issuance system linked to the Dastak platform and NADRA’s Civil Registration and Vital Statistics system, collectively reflecting a sustained institutional effort to move routine citizen interactions with government away from paper-based and in-person processes toward digital channels that are faster, more transparent, and accessible from any smartphone.
