Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Home Department has completed the full automation of its arms license section, enabling citizens to apply and renew licenses entirely online. The new process is accessible through the Dastak portal, with integrated digital payments made possible via Paymir. This transformation is a major component of the region’s broader FinTech-enabled governance framework, focused on improving transparency, user convenience, and administrative efficiency.
The online system replaces traditional manual procedures, offering an end-to-end digital workflow that allows residents to submit applications, generate vouchers, and make secure online payments without visiting physical offices. The integration of Paymir facilitates seamless transaction processing, making it easier for applicants to fulfill payment requirements from anywhere with internet access. The automation effort aligns with ongoing initiatives to modernize citizen services in the province through digital infrastructure.
Since the implementation of the automated system, significant progress has been recorded in terms of adoption and usage. The Home Department reports that total revenue collected through the new digital arms license management process has reached Rs. 1.9 billion. Additionally, Rs. 345 million worth of payments are currently in process. A total of 203,998 vouchers have been generated, reflecting robust activity on the platform, with 474,560 total applications received through the system to date. These figures highlight the efficiency and responsiveness of the automated solution in meeting the needs of users across the province.
Citizens can now apply for new arms licenses and process renewals through the Dastak portal without delays commonly associated with paper-based systems. The system allows users to track the status of their applications and receive updates, while also helping authorities monitor progress and revenue flows in real time. This transparency is expected to reduce manual bottlenecks and potential for irregularities, while improving access for applicants in remote areas who previously faced geographic and bureaucratic barriers.
The initiative also supports the broader provincial agenda of utilizing digital tools to deliver critical public services. It reflects the growing integration of FinTech solutions into governance models that seek to streamline operations and build citizen trust in digital platforms. With this model, the Home Department demonstrates how a typically paper-heavy government function can be reengineered to function with speed, accuracy, and accountability.
The move to digital licensing is part of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s continued efforts to promote efficiency in public administration through innovation and technology. It represents a shift towards citizen-centric services that reduce administrative burdens, encourage transparency in financial flows, and support the province’s long-term vision of becoming a digital-first public sector.
