Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has achieved a significant milestone by receiving international recognition from UNESCO for designating two of its tourist areas as Biosphere Reserves. The UNESCO designation was announced at a ceremony held in Paris, acknowledging the conservation efforts and sustainability measures undertaken by the province.
The two designated Biosphere Reserves are the Gallies Biosphere Reserve, spanning from Bagnoter to Barian in Galiyat, Abbottabad district, and Garam Chashma in Chitral. These reserves are of global significance, particularly due to the protection they provide to their forests and natural habitats.
The management and administration of these Biosphere Reserves are conducted under UNESCO’s Man and Biosphere (MAB) program. The MAB program aims to ensure the sustainable use of natural resources while meeting the needs of local communities. The Wildlife Department of KP has successfully fulfilled the stringent requirements set by UNESCO for establishing these protected areas, demonstrating its commitment to environmental conservation.
This international recognition emphasizes the importance of preserving these areas and safeguarding the well-being of their residents. The Chief Conservator of the Wildlife Department KP deserves recognition for their commendable efforts in securing this prestigious international acknowledgment. The designation of these Biosphere Reserves reflects KP’s commitment to environmental sustainability and highlights its rich biodiversity for the world to appreciate.
