Karachi’s upcoming IT Park is expected to create around 15,000 jobs and generate up to $100 million in annual ICT exports, according to Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal. The project is being developed by the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) near Jinnah International Airport as a flagship E-Pakistan initiative under the government’s Uraan Pakistan program. The facility is planned as a technology hub that will provide infrastructure for IT companies, startups and other technology-focused businesses. According to the Special Technology Zones Authority, the park is located on six acres and has a planned covered area of around 1.145 million square feet. It is currently listed as under construction.
The planned Karachi IT Park will include approximately 220 modern offices and 30 dedicated startup spaces, along with a Tier-III data center. The facility is intended to accommodate technology companies while providing space for startups and other businesses operating in the digital economy. The official project profile also identifies areas including software development, IT-enabled services, cloud computing, Artificial Intelligence and machine learning, cybersecurity, fintech and digital payments, data analytics, Internet of Things and automation. Additional facilities are planned for business incubation, technology commercialization, research and testing, university-industry collaboration, and other technology-related activities. The project is therefore being developed not only as office space but as a broader technology ecosystem connecting businesses, startups, research institutions and academic organizations.
The government has allocated around Rs. 3.75 billion for the Karachi IT Park under the Public Sector Development Programme for the 2026-27 fiscal year. Official budget documents specify Rs. 3.745 billion for the project during the current fiscal year. The overall project is financed jointly through Korean financing and Pakistan’s public-sector development allocation, with the official Special Technology Zones Authority profile putting the total project cost at approximately $186.658 million. The same profile describes an eleven-storey facility comprising eight above-ground floors and three underground levels. Planned capacity figures from the authority indicate space for around 200 to 210 technology companies and approximately 8,400 technology resources, while the latest government announcement puts expected employment generation at 15,000 jobs. These figures represent different project measures and should not be treated as identical capacity estimates.
The Karachi IT Park has been under development for several years and has faced delays. In June 2026, a National Assembly committee reviewed the project and noted that construction remained at an early stage, directing relevant authorities to accelerate implementation. The facility is still under construction and has not yet entered its operational phase, meaning the announced employment and export figures are targets associated with the completed project rather than current outcomes. Once operational, the park is intended to provide dedicated infrastructure for established IT companies, startups, research and development activities and technology commercialization. Its location adjacent to Jinnah International Airport is also part of the planned infrastructure model, with the official project profile highlighting access to Karachi’s educational institutions, city center and transport links. The latest announcement places the Karachi IT Park among the government’s projects aimed at expanding Pakistan’s technology infrastructure and increasing the capacity of the ICT sector to generate export revenue.
